The girl inhaled a deep breath. She stood at her doorway, opening it slowly, and paused; looking around with an apprehensive look on her face. Up and down the street she took note of everyone. As she did so, she felt a wretched pulling at her stomach, and took quick steps down her small apartments concrete stairs. She looked about one more time, and glanced across the street to the little Cafe, where she worked as a waitress. Take it easy Josey girl, they're only people. She told herself. The girl walked briskly past everyone, and barely taking any notice to where she was going, she tripped over herself. Josey fell forward, and before hitting the ground- she felt strong arms catch her. Her knee's barely touched the cement. She felt the strong arms around her waist now, helping her up. Josey glanced upwards at the man, and opened her mouth to thank him. "Oh my gosh, thank you so much, I'm such a clutz, really, I'm so sorry-" But before she could finish her sentence, the tall man was already walking away, she hadn't even caught a glance of his face which was now disappearing into the crowd of people crossing the street. Josey just watched as the man left, standing stupidly as people pushed past her. She frowned. What an ass! He left before I could even thank him! The girl thought in annoyance. She grumbled angrily to herself and dusted herself off, and walked across the street. La Famille Cafe was to be seen on a sign above her as she pushed open the door to her workplace. "Andre! I'm here!" Josey yelled to the backroom as she entered the Cafe. Andre gave a muffled reply, and Josey quickly entered the employee lounge where she placed her things in a cubby and walked to the kitchen where she began preparing to open the Cafe.

Aforementioned "tall man" was now walking down the street, chuckling to himself. He expected her to be slightly angry with him... but, of course, there was nothing he could control about that. But... He started to think something and turned around, watching her enter the cafe where she worked. His train of thought now lost to him, regrettably (Josie often made him lose his train of thought), he started to walk the exact opposite way of his original destination. Then he loitered on the sidewalk, waiting for the cafe to actually be open - after all, it was rude to enter shops without being invited.

Josey fumbled around foolishly in the kitchen. She grabbed plates, and utensils, and napkins and walked around to the tables and set them down. Andre walked out of the backroom grinning. "Always my Josey, such a determined young worker... ahh, you remind me of Lecille at your age when we first opened this cafe together..." "16 years next month." Josey finished for him. She had heard Andre tell her this many times, and she knew how proud he was about his cafe. Andre walked smoothly towards the door, and as he did Lecille burst into the cafe. "I'm so sorry I'm late hon, I had to pick up the things you wanted from the store, and I spaced." she said hurriedly giving Andre a peck on the cheek, while setting down the bags full of food. Andre then helped her bring the things to the kitchen and yelled to the backroom at Syene that we now had food he could prepare. Josey took a seat at one of the tables for a moment. She looked at the window, not out it, just... at it. This cafe, these people- all helped her get through so much. From the time she ran away from LA, to the time she ended up at their doorstep in the cold. She smiled to herself. These were the only people she had ever met that she could truly call family, and that she could stand. Josey then stood up, and put the open sign in the window. She then turned, and walked hastily to the employee lounge where she would wait until around noon for workers and people getting lunch, to get food.

At around noon, when the cafe opened, Blaise walked in, lingering near the door and trying to decide whether he should seat himself or wait for a host. Seeing nothing to tell him otherwise, he sat at a table near a window facing the street. He was relatively quiet, looking at one of the laminated menus sitting in front of him. Human food, he thought silently, laughing. I suppose it would be a good thing to try. It's been so long. He smiled quietly to himself, inhaling the cafe's scent. Food, spices, the lemony scent of cleaning fluid, and, of course, people greeted him. He chuckled, deciding on his food.

Time seemed to quickly float past Josey. She waltzed out of the lounge and towards the oncoming people. Looking around, she smiled to each person and greeted them. She took orders on her small notepad, and then walked to the far end to a table facing the window and took her last order. It was a man, he was ruggedly handsome and seemed to be kind by the way he smiled warmly at her. "Hello, and welcome to the La Famille Cafe, what can I get you?" Josey said, avoiding the mans kind gaze.

"Mmh... I think desert would be all." he glanced at the menu again. "A chocolate eclair, white cake, and strawberries." he smiled warmly, sliding the menu back into place. "Is that alright?"

Josey smiled. "Of course, we'll have it ready in a jiff." She then walked off with her notepad, and ripping the orders from it and and handed them to Syene. She went to the kitchen to help pour drinks, and once she had all of them, she served them to everyone sitting at their respective tables. She stopped by the man again, and put a cup of ice cold water on the table beside him. "Here, just in case you get a little thirsty." Josey said winking, and walking back towards the kitchen. She then piled up everyone's orders, balancing the platter lightly on her palm. Calmly, she walked towards the far table by the window first to give the man his desserts. But right as she walked towards him, a woman pulled out her chair to go to the rest room. As she pulled out the chair Josey stumbled over it, toppling over quickly. She yelped in surprise.

Blaise stood up quickly, almost so fast she couldn't see him. His arm wrapped around her waist just as it had when she'd almost falling in the streets... and he caught the platter. His grey eyes were wide - "Are you okay?" he asked, sounding concerned.

Josey gasped. Strong arms caught her waist, and the platter fell in the mans palm with ease. She let her breath go, staring at her saviour's grey eyes. "I- I am now." She said dryly. Josey quickly stood up, bringing her deep blue eyes down to the floor. She felt her heart beating in her ears. Never in her life had she seen someone with such quick reflexes. "Thank you, really- so much, that- that was amazing." she breathed. A few people standing around in the cafe were grinning at the man. The woman who had tripped her was apologizing sincerely, but Josey waved her off and said it wasn't her fault. "I should have been watching where I was going." Josey simply replied. "If it wasn't for him I'd of probably caused a lot more trouble." She turned towards the man now. "Thank you, again. Really." Then out of the back room Andre, and Lecille appeared. "What's all the hullabaloo? Is this man causing any trouble?" Andre growled, nodding to the man holding Josey's platter. "Oh no no! This man just saved me actually, you see I tripped- and the platter flew, and and, he caught me." Josey said, stuttering. Andre frowned. "Ah, well- I apologize kind sir, Josey can sometimes be a bit careless." Josey nodded. It was true, she wouldn't deny it, she had often been caught tripping and causing trouble.

Blaise watched everything that happened next with a calm amusement: She gasped, the woman who had been seated stood up and was now apologizing frantically. While she - Josie - was caught in the midst of this, he said, softly and politely, "It wasn't any problem," and when the two owners of the cafe came out, he glanced down at the floor modestly, "Maybe not so much careless as clumsy." he smiled gently and warmly; he didn't mean any harm by this last statement. Gingerly, he set his own food at his table and offered the platter back to Josie, still with that same crooked charming smile.

Josey smiled shyly taking the platter from him. "Thanks." she uttered again. "We apologize for the inconvenience everyone, we truly are." Andre said cheerily, glancing at Josey. "As a thank you gift, I'd like to offer you your desserts, free of charge." he said to the man as Josey set his desserts on the table. Then Andre walked quietly back to the lounge with Lecille. For a moment Josey stood feebily beside the table, she looked at him- wanting to say something, but instead asked- "I know it's not my place to intrude, but... what is your name?" She asked looking down at her feet.

Blaise was about to object to Andre's statement - (something along the lines of 'it was not a problem, you do not need to do that!') when the man stalked off. Sighing, he glanced at Josie and smiling that smile again. "You're right," he said cheerily, "it isn't your place. It was mine." he chuckled, almost as if he were enjoying a joke. "Blaise Descouedres." He said his last name deh-coh-dreys and offered his hand to her, a little awkwardly, since she was holding the platter.

Josey smiled kindheartedly at the mans words. "Blaise... ah- oh." She glanced down at his hand, and quickly placed her platter delicately on the table, along with her notebook and put her hand in his. His skin was ice cold; though not enough to make her flinch. "I'm Josephine Everett. Though, most just call me Josey." She moved a piece of blonde hair from her eyes crystal blue eyes. "Thank you again Blaise. If there is anything I can do for you, anything at all- don't hesitate to ask alright?"

"Of course not~" his smile widened. He gave her hand a squeeze before letting go and sliding into his chair, tucking into his sweets, looking quite pleased with himself and glad for the taste. While Josey went about her work, checking up on other customers, he watched her out of the corner of his eye - just to make sure she didn't put herself into a troublesome situation again.

Josey happily hopped from table to table, placing the food in front of the now, very hungry customers. All of which greeted her will a kind smile, and a few words of thanks. "I come in here almost everyday, and Josey, you always try your hardest in everything you do here." Said an older man as she placed a sandwich in front of him, and repoured him some coffee. Josey just nodded sweetly and walked back towards the employee lounge. As she walked off she heard the mans wife utter- "Such a timid little thing isn't she? Barely says a word to anyone." Josey entered the lounge just as Andre was leaving, but before he left he stopped in front of the lounge door and frowned at her. "Now don't you go making any trouble young lady." Then he winked, and left the lounge. Josey tiredly plopped on a chair pulling her legs to her chest and placing her head on her knee's. Causing trouble always did make her tired. Just as soon as Andre left, she heard him faintly outside the door. "Thanks again young man. You really did help out our little Josey. She's a frail little thing ain't she? Anyways, if there is anything you ever need from us, don't hesitate to ask. Kindness is always rewarded here."
