Jason flashed a smile at her as he stuffed the coins in his pocket. "You, too," he said. He picked up the pile of books and then paused, shaking his head at his own forgetfulness. "I guess I'll see you later, too. Do you want me to stop by here to meet you when you get off work?" he asked. "I've got a couple of things to do, but I can be back around five or sixish, if that's okay with you..."

Poppy blinked. That hadn't occurred to her. "Uhm, that would be nice." She grinned. "The shop closes at five-thirty."

"I'll be back here by five forty-five at the latest," Jason promised. And I'll have to see about a charm against Tristes, he added to himself. The last thing I need is to get caught by the elders because some Triste attacks my new apprentice, after all...

Poppy smiled. "Alright. I'll be here." She was starting to feel the start of a headache, but she pushed it away. She could deal, and as long as business kept going slow, she would get rid of it before Jason got back.
[ She should... PASS OUT! And he should have to figure out where she lives and then we can have another time skip and she can find out she has cancer. xD That's the only part of our plot I can think of. ]

(That's pretty much all I can think of, too. And the 'I love you, you idiot!' part where everyone is really shocked and Jason gets up to leave and his dad attacks him, thereby showing her parents the Night World....but yeah, anyway, that could work.)
Jason grinned at Poppy, the smile reaching his very blue eyes this time. "I'll see you then," he said. He turned to go, his mind already on other things. He had a lot to do in such a short time...

[ EXACTLY! ^^; ] Poppy watched him go, then set about putting books onto the shelves.

It was hours later the next time Jason made his way to the book store he'd been to earlier. He was really looking forward to it, which was somewhat usual. But, Poppy, well, she interested him, to say the least. There was something that seemed to draw him back to her, urging him to walk faster.
The light was still on in the shop, he noticed. That was good. That meant that she hadn't left yet, and he was running late, on top of it all. He'd changed into a nicer pair of jeans, and a dark green t-shirt that read 'You only live once...' on the front in faded block letters and '...So live well...' on the back in the same print. He'd taken off the garnet necklace, but it was in the messenger bag that was now slung over his chest, just in case. He'd left the other jewelry as it was before, though.

Poppy had changed out of her dress - she usually wore such clothes while working; it added to the homeliness of the store (well, except for the shelves in the very back). Her elf-like form had suddenly become a little more childish, in purple skinny jeans and a white t-shirt with a raven on it, "nevermore" printed across the back in maroon print. Around her neck was a long black hemp necklace, and idol of a fox hanging from it.
She was visible through the window before Jason actually went inside, changing the display books in the center table, but she very quickly bustled to put the old books away. By the time he had opened the door, she was back at the counter. Diligence should have been her middle name - but it wasn't. It was Nicole.
[ OH MY GOSH. I JUST REALIZED THAT THIS THING IS SEVEN PAGES LONG. xD ]

Jason offered her a smile when he walked in the door. "Sorry I'm late," he told her. "I sort of lost track of time while I was working on something," he added, shrugging his shoulders in a sort of apologetic way.
(Wow...it's already seven pages...that's awesome...)

Poppy beamed, "It's alright!" she said brightly. "I had extra stuff to do, anyway," she said. She almost leapt forward and hugged him - but of course, she didn't.
[ xD It is wonderful. ]

Jason grinned. "Good." He paused for a moment, then flipped the messenger bag open and searched through it for a moment. He found what he was looking for rather quickly. He pulled out a silver chain with a pendant on it. The pendant was a simple silver medal with an odd symbol carved into it. "This is for you," he said, holding it out to her. "It's a protection charm against Tristes like my father. It should help avoid them if you don't make yourself blatantly obvious in a crowd. It will help against some of the minor spells, but nothing can really hide you completely or prevent the magic from affecting you," he said.

Poppy looked at it with interest, "It's... strangely pretty." she smiled, slipping it on. "Thank you. For protecting me." she smiled. "I don't know if I could make myself blatantly obvious without keeping your secret."

Jason paused for a moment. "Actually, it's not so much about a physical manifestation or work of magic," he told her. All traces of his previous humor had disappeared from his face. "A Triste can see magic. They see the auras of the people around them, and they can pick Night Worlders out easily because of the different aura they give off. And they can tell individuals apart, from what I've been told."

Poppy blinked. "Will doing magic make me part of the Night World, or will I appear like... a Triste? Tristes aren't members of the Night World." she blinked.

Jason considered that for a moment. "To be perfectly honest, I'm not actually sure. I've never met anyone who wasn't part of the Night World orginally who was training with a witch or any other Night World being. Sometimes people end up in the Night World because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time, but those are the ones who ended up vampires. I think lycan can change people, too, but I'm not very sure," he admitted. "And to be honest, you're the first non-witch I've met who has this inate ability," Jason added, shrugging his shoulders. "It's quite an interesting occurance...and probably a rare one, too..."
